Goal of Community Groups

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality

This phrase is actually the title of a powerful book written by Pete Scazzero. During 2018-19 the founding members of Restoration completed this study as a Community Group as they prayerfully laid the foundation for this ministry.

So, how can you know if you’re exhibiting tangible spiritual growth? If you’re becoming increasingly more emotionally healthy spiritually. It’s simple, really, though not always easy. One can discover the answer to this question by looking at two areas of his or her life:

  1. Daily habits.
  2. Responses / reactions to, well, life.

The second is a direct result of the first. Change the first and you’ll improve the second.

Are your daily habits such that your responses and reactions to life are characterized by the Fruit of the Spirit noticeably more consistently today than they were yesterday? Paul listed the Fruit of the Spirit for us in the New Testament Book of Galatians, Chapter 5:22-23: The Fruit of the Spirit is love, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

When someone cuts you off in traffic. When the diagnosis is scary. When you don’t get the job. When the marriage fails. When the kids are running amok. When the person in the express lane ahead of you has 32 items. When you’re tired, stressed, anxious.

Now you see the importance of community – we cannot do this on our own, in isolation. We need Jesus. We need one another.
